Why is weight gain a symptom of ovarian cysts?
For the first 6 years I had my period, everything was fine, I had no cramping. For the last year, my cramps have become increasingly worse, and have gotten to the point where I cannot go to work for 3 days a month (4 advil, warm baths, heating pads, NOTHING works) I went to the doctor and asked him if I should be concerned, and he said most women my age have ovarian cysts, and this can cause pain during menstruation, and it was nothing to worry about. Now, I have been having pain in between periods, and my boobs are super sore (NEVER happened before), I have cramping in my pelvic area, as well as very low abdomen, and have been getting EXTREMELY bloated lately for NO reason. I had a period where intercourse was very very painful (I almost went to the doctor for that, but then it improved) I also gained about 15lbs in the last couple of months, and I have been exercising more and eating a much healthier diet than any previous point in my life. (It is not "just muscle" I LOOK fatter.)
I am 100% positive I am not pregnant
I HATE my doctor. I am in canada, so it is very difficult to get a new doctor. Do you think I should go to the ER sometime, or will this probably just go away on it’s own?
iwas recently diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. i went to the doctor with pain in my abdomen, 10 lb weight gain in one month, and all of the symptoms of pregnancy, but i was on the depo shot, so i knew i wasn’t pregnant. i had a sonogram, and they found a cyst. i was given no explanation of why i gained the weight, but was told not to worry about the cyst, that most of the time, they will shrink or disappear on their own. upon my own research, though, i read that vigorous activity can cause the cyst to rupture, and that is supposedly excruciatingly painful. since i am on the depo, there is nothing they will do, they will just check on it in 3 months. if it has grown, they will consider surgery. in your case, they may prescribe birth control pills, as the hormonal change has an effect on the growth of the cyst. they will usually shrink or disappear. i wouldn’t go to the e.r unless you have bad pain as that may mean it has ruptured.
