ovarian cyst and birth control?

My daughter who is 16 was dx with a ovarian cyst a pretty big one, well we did the birth control thing, she has not yet had a full cycle of the pill and has already had 2 periods one 10 days and the other 5 days and some increased pain now on both sides, I have asked the doctor if we could come in early to make sure everything is ok but she said take the full cycle of birth control first. My question is….. is the heavy bleeding normal and is the increased pain normal, the cyst is on the left side could she now have one on the right side also. Thanks alot for your answers.
I think you need to consult another doctor. Try to find one that specializes in PCOS. I believe that is what your daughter has. I have had it since I was 10. I got no relief using birth control although many with PCOS regulate after 3 months on the pill.
Just starting the birth control pills, I am not surprised by the irregular bleeding. And, the discomfort *might* be ok. However, the pain alone would be a reason for me to demand my daughter be seen or else I’d find another provider. The cyst could be growing. In all fairness, the doctors’ office might be trying to help you avoid a trip to their office (some patients get mad when you suggest they come in). However, this warrants another ultrasound and any reasonable doctor would agree.
