My mother is having stabbing pains in the left side of her chest?
My mom has been waking up around 3 in the morning with stabbing pains in the left side of her chest- this morning the pain was so great that she called her sister to take her to the ER. She was there for around 5 hours, they did some blood work, a CAT scan, an ultrasound, and another CAT scan with contrast to check out some abnormalities in her liver. Her liver was fine, her blood work came back fine, ultrasound showed some ovarian cysts that they didn’t think were anything to worry about, and they noted some gallstones. They discharged her with a prescription of hydro codeine and told her to go on a low fat diet. They told her it might be a gallstone that is intermittently blocking a duct, causing her pain. They told her that if it happened again she might need to have her gallbladder removed. Anyone have any other ideas? Im not so sure its her gallbladder especially cause her pain is on the left and they say the pain should be on the right if its her gallbladder.
Her pain doesnt get worse from breathing- although, when the doctor was checking her out when he pressed on the right side of her chest the pain got worse on the left same when he pressed on her left side.

Gallbladder pain can be on both the left or right or one side or another and even in your shoulder and back. I believe the doctors are right on this one since gallstones can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. A gallstone blocked the duct in my mother and she had to have emergency gallbladder surgery. They did all that testing to rule out a lot of other conditions. I think they know what they are talking about.
