Has anyone had shoulder pain associated with an ovarian cyst?

I had a cyst on my right ovary about 3 months ago..Now I have the same feeling on the left side, but with shoulder pain this time. The last one on the right I had a bunch of symptoms but no shoulder pain?!

  1. Cat says:

Sorry to hear that. I have the same problem. I read about the shoulder pain in the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Welsher. I swear by that book and believe every woman should own a copy.It is a symptom. You shouldn’t worry unless you have uncontrollable pain accompanied with a fever or nausea. If you feel you should be in a hospital you should get there. But to ease your mind shoulder pain is a side effect pain associated with ovarian cysts. You are not feeling anything new or dangerous.

Not me. In fact, I don’t have ovaries therefore don’t have to worry about ovarian cysts.

  3. Sometimes it may not be a problem at all with your shoulder. There is such a thing called referred pain which is something wrong with, say, one of your organs and the pain is felt in an entirely different place. Sounds weird, but its very true and very common. Its the same reason when your having a heart attack you may feel pain in your left arm and up in your jaw. Our neurological system is very complex! Problems with the gallbladder typically refer pain to the shoulder. Here are links to a few sites that can help you. I use the pain management ones all the time:
