Ovarian cyst? Severe abdominal pain, spotting?

I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend the day that I got off my period (he "pulled out") then I had sex using condoms around the time of ovulation. My boyfriend noticed some liquid on the outside of the condom and to be safe we purchased emergency contraceptives. A little less than a week later I had some light spotting for a couple days. A week after that I began to experience dull pain in my lower left abdomen. I ignored the pain until one morning I woke up with extremely severe pain to the point that I could not move to get out of bed. This was on day 30. My cycles are usually 28-30 days. I’ve taken two pregnancy tests as a precaution. Both of which came out as negative. My mother said she experienced something similar when she had an ovarian cyst at age 29. Do you think this is an ovarian cyst or something else? Help is appreciated

This sounds like something more is going on such as something like endometriosis (an example only).

It could also be an indication that your period is coming soon (another example only).

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

The symptoms sound very like ovarian cysts – these can be really painful. Often cysts do just go away themselves, although they can come back again. You really need to get youself checked out by a doctor to get a proper diagnosis.

The problem with conventional medicine is that it has really only 3 approaches to treating ovarian cysts – wait and see (& hope that it goes away itself), birth control pills, or surgery. All 3 options fail to address the underlying cause of the cyst, which means that even if it does go away (or is removed) it is quite likely to come back again.

That’s why I believe in the holistic treatment approach for ovarian cysts. It’s totally natural, and addresses issues such as diet, your metabolism, and your hormones. If you can get these right, you will get rid of your cyst naturally and forever, without the need for drugs or surgery.

There’s a good site below with articles and more information. Hope this helps.

A few years ago I used emergency contraceptive, and I got an ovarian cyst within days. (I didn’t know it at the time, but I have gotten several since then-diagnosed- so now I know exactly what it was). It can be very painful in the general area of your ovaries, sometimes more on one side, but often just generalized in the area. It can also cause lower back pain and sort of shooting pains at the tops of your thighs. In my experience, depenending on the day it can be dull pain or really excruciating. Also, many of the symptoms are exactly the same as pregnancy, like sore breasts and nausea, because of the level of hormones. I would guess you have a cyst because the emergency contraceptive changed the balance of hormones and interrupted your cycle. But I would highly recommend going to your OBGYN- he or she can often tell if there is a cyst just by doing an exam, and if not, a simple ultrasound will tell you, then you can put your mind at ease.
