What is the best way to maximize weight loss when you have PCOS?
PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) causes cysts to form on the ovaries as well as insulin resistance. I was diagnosed with it about 9 or 10 years ago and definitely have all the symptoms: weight gain, large mid-section, excessive hair growth and infertility. After many years of being stubborn, I have finally decided to take the doctor’s orders to change my diet and exercise on a daily basis.
I have been going to the gym for a little over two weeks and I can tell the difference in the way I feel already. I no longer feel like I am having hot flashes, nor do I feel sluggish and tired. The most I have weighed is 207 pounds (at 5 ft. 2 ½ in. that’s a lot of weight). When I joined the gym I weighed 199 pounds. I now weigh between 194 and 195 pounds – it fluctuates from day to day depending on how much water I drink.
I started out doing 30 minutes of circuit training and 30 minutes of cardio. I have upped it to 30 minutes of circuit and one hour of cardio (elliptical, treadmill and bike machines). I have been going five times per week. Also, I drink anywhere from 84 to 100 oz. of water per day. Otherwise, I drink water during the week and I have been avoiding white bread, sugars (other than those in fresh fruit), potatoes, rice, and I have been eating five meals per day (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner).
I do not eat after 8 p.m. and try to wait atleast two to three hours before I go to bed. On the weekends I treat myself to ranch dressing on my salad instead of the healthy italian. I also may have a few alcoholic beverages on the weekends to treat myself. I do not drink soda anymore and try to avoid drinks that contain soda. I do not eat sweets anymore either. This is a huge lifestyle change for me because I used to eat tons of sugar everyday, and NEVER exercised.
To tell you the truth I am so proud of you, you are on the right track just kep it up, only thing I can tell you now is to ask your dr about metformin I have pcos and I am at normal weight (5"1 and 127lbs) I visit my dr on Friday and I now weight 113lbs, I am not trying to lose anymore lbs, also you must be a really in for losing weight and fight pcos back, I mean I stil sneak a lil soda (just had some ginger ale soda on friday I only drink it cause it said caffinee free lol) but continue do what you are doing and you’ll see a big change in no time,
Try asking your doctor if you can go on Metformin! Its a miracle drug for PCOS women. It helps you lose weight and regulates cycles. I’ve been on it for 9 years. I started taking it and dropped 30 pounds and have kept it off. Key is diet too. Watch portion sizes and try not to eat too many sweets. During my pregnancy I gained 55 pounds going up to 176 pounds. I’m at 115 now. 5’4". I lost the weight through diet, exercise and metformin. Also lift weights!! Good luck girl. You can do it!! And feel better too!! Hope I helped.
It sounds like your doing really good with life style change but how long can you keep it us? Even after all the weight falls off? Not to be harsh but I used to be bound by food and it sounds like your passion for food is still there just deprived. Almost like you have a fever from an infection you take tylenol and the fever has gone down but you still have an infection in your body. PCOS is another disease I’ve seen people overcome in the mist of their deliverence. There is hope, and definately I encourage to keep seeking for the truth until you find it, don’t settle for second best inside of you is a perfect body ready to come out.
