Will it make me gain weight?

I have a tendency to get (painful) ovarian cysts alot, so my Doctor is putting me on birth control just to stop ovulation so I won’t get the cysts anymore. (I find it hilarious, because I’m a virgin going on the pill. Ironic huh?) Anyway, the type I’m going to use is levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol. I heard that it made you gain weight and make your breasts hurt. Is it true? It’s not like I’m not going to use it if it does, but I’d like to know in advance to know If I should like go to the gym or something.
It might make you gain weight, it might not.
I got on the pill last fall and I haven’t gained a pound. My boobs did get bigger though. BC has a lot of hormones in it and it depends on the person how those hormones effect you.
And your boobs will hurt, you may feel a little crazy etc.. But this is only until your body gets used to the pill. I was pretty miserable the first month I was on the pill but once my body got used to it I was fine.
who cares
weight doesn’t matter
are you healthy?
health matters not weight
and if you think i am kidding look up the 500lbs man in mexico who is as healthy than a horse
From my experience,if the pill makes you gain weight, it’s water weight. I just cut way back on my salt and it resolved itself. I obsessively researched BC before I went on it and I never found an article that confirmed that it caused you to gain body weight. I hope it makes you feel better! I had cysts too and it seemed to help me.
OK, I used to get cysts too. Your doctor is right to prescribe you the combined pill, however, he should actually give you one which is anti-androgenic, to make it less likely that you will develop cysts, as levenorgestrel is andorgenic, so isn’t very good for your problem. Here are some alternative prgestogens with brand names:
Drospirenone – Yasmin pill (possibly one of the best for PCOS, cysts, acne and other issues).
Desogestrel – Marvelon, Mercilon (very good in my experience)
Norgestimate – Cilest
Gestodene – Femodene, Femodette.
I would go back and ask for a more suitable pill, as the levenorgestrel pills (Microgynon, Ovranette) tend to be less effective in preventing cysts and other side effects such as acne and weight gain.
The hormones in the pill cause weight gain and painful breasts in a lot of women.
However, you have to remember that everyone reacts differently to the pill — some girls experience a lot of negative side effects, and some other girls don’t experience any side effects at all. So there’s a good chance that you might not gain any weight or experience any bad side effects. You won’t know until you start taking it!
If you find that you are gaining a lot of weight and/or have sore breasts, tell your doctor and ask if you can switch to another pill. There are many different kinds of birth control pills available now. If you react badly to this one, just tell your doctor and maybe she can switch you to another brand.
Hope that helped!
