Ovarian cyst?

I went to the ER about 3 weeks ago. The results was a ovarian cyst. Last year I had my other ovary removed due to a 12 pd cyst on my tube and my ovary was the size of a grapefruit. (I never had any pain until we found out about the 12 pd cyst) I’am birth control. About two days ago I started getting pain again and bad nausea. I’am having lower back pain too near my ovary. Isn’t 3 weeks enough time for the birth control to work? Thanks for the help. :)
To clear up my details my right ovary is already gone. This is my left one causing trouble now.

    I’ve battled ovarian cyst issues for about 7 years. Here is what has helped for me:

    1. Finding a doctor who knew what they were doing, which includes treatment and steering me in the direction of having less cysts;
    2. Cutting back on caffeine….now I drink 1 diet coke/day. Caffeine can really play havoc on these cysts. Alcohol too….so cut back in both these areas and you will be glad you did;
    3. Losing weight. Any excess weight can trigger many health problems. Just losing 10 pounds can help in eliminating cysts;
    4. Know your options, and go with your instinct. If you are having tremendous pain, call your doctor or go to the ER immediately. If you cannot control the pain, know that your body is telling you something is wrong.

    I’ve been on the pill for about 20 years. After about 3 years on a certain pill I have to be changed to a different one; it just doesn’t work for my body any longer. It does take my body about 6 months to adjust to a new pill, so have patience. Three weeks isn’t long enough for your body to get used to a new hormone level.

    Make sure you’re getting plenty of exercise, sleep and nutrition. Try to avoid high-stress situations (if possible) and learn ways to cope with stress so your body doesn’t pay the price. I used to work in a high-stress environment, and I KNOW that attributed to my cyst issues.

    when i had that surgery, it took a year for me to completely heal. i have heard that it sometimes takes longer than that for the pills to work. give it a little more time, but still tell your
    doctor please, hun. blessings to you.

    More details on the question to clear things up (she’s my sis):

    She had her right ovary and tube removed last summer due to a 12pd cyst , and her ovary was enlarged.

    3 weeks ago she was hurting by her other ovary, we went to the emergency room and found out she has a nickel-sized cyst on the other ovary, they had upped the dosage on her birth control to stop any further cysts from forming. They said the cyst should dissolve in 6weeks.
    A couple of days ago she started feeling nauseated and lower back pain and spontaneous pain by her ovary.

    She is wondering if the birth control should’ve taken care of the cyst and should she be concerned about the nausea?

    Thanks everyone for your help!! I just getting worried about her

    Were you on any birth control (hormonal) when you got your first cyst? I went on the pill in my teens and it actually caused me to get ovarian cysts. I had two orange sized ones, one on each ovary, that required surgerical removal. The doctors swore up and down that there was no way it was the pill, but I went off it anyway and saw no more cysts.

    Two years later I decided to try my luck again, assuming the doctors were probably right, and the pill was unrelated. Within a month of starting the pill again, I had lemon sized cysts growing on my ovaries. I went off the pill and they resolved themselves over the course of a few months. Now I don’t mess with hormones, it’s too scary.
