PCOS disappeared is it possible?

I’m wondering if your body can be cured of your PCOS… (if you dont know what it is look up Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

From 11-18yrs old, i had regular cycles every month, then at 18 my period only came every 3-6 months, they would be short, crampy, and then symptoms such as weight gain, unwanted hair, mood swings, cysts on the ovaries started… it was confirmed at the age of 20, with ultrasounds showing cysts,.. im 23 now

I have been told cysts can disappear but not sure how common or true this is?

The irregular periods continued until last October, it came for 2 months in a row! and then i fell pregnant in December

So wondering if it can just disappear??, especially getting pregnant so quick after 2 regular cycles! I unfortunately lost my baby, at 20wks, in May, but since then my periods have STAYED regular!!!

Although i am very depressed about losing my baby, i somehow feel like maybe the PCOS disappeared and i am somewhat happy if this is true!

I would love to start ttc, my boyfriend isnt ready yet, but if this means ill be more fertile than when i had irregular periods, this is hope for me and my boyfriend to get pregnant quick next time around

Wondering if anyone might have had this happen, and if they have had regular periods randomly after many years of an irregular one, do you know why??

Why after losing my baby has it gone back to a permenant Regular (3 periods in a row) & EXACTLY on time??!!

This has NOT happened since i was 18! and thats 5 years of irregular periods!! and i have no idea what ive done different…

This has given me some hope and happiness out of a sad upsetting situation

Thanks to all answers.

I also have PCOS and I have also experienced random episodes of going without a period for months, then getting regular 31 day cycles, then 28 days, then 42….it makes it hard to know when you’re ovulating.
About the disappearance of PCOS symptoms, pregnancy has the same effect on your hormones as birth control pills, in that it shuts down the ovaries and stops any cysts from forming. Which is why PCOS women often have quite regular cycles for the first few months off BC.
I would say, carry on as you are going, stick with the lifestyle routine you have since it seems to be good for the PCOS.
Did you go on any sort of diet before conceiving? I’m ttc also.
I’m sorry for your loss and I wish you the best of luck with conceiving soon.

PCOS is a syndrome. There is no ‘test’ you can take to determine if you have a single ‘disease’ or something that acts like it. I have half the symptoms of PCOS, but because I don’t have certain factors (including cysts) I don’t get the diagnosis.

It is perhaps that you have had a hormone imbalance that is better now and no longer producing symptoms of PCOS. However, since you have had cysts, my guess is that you do have PCOS but are going through a symptomless period. That is great! Good luck!

I was told by two different doctors and my mother-in-law, who is a nurse and had PCOS, that some women’s cycles get regular after pregnancy. One of them said it was like a reset button. The other doctor said pregnancy cures PCOS. These were two well respected doctors in the Phoenix metro area. My mother-in-law had a misscarriage and two healthy pregnancies after that. Her cycles were normal after her first pregnancy. In other words, I think it’s very possibly. Don’t lose hope. The second time around will hopefully be better. The common theory I keep reading is that everyone’s body is different. If you got pregnant once you were obviously ovulating. Best of luck.

I’m not a PCOS expert, I’ve only recently been diagnosed. But some of what I have just learned might be useful to you.

I also had a miscarriage and was told this was most likely due to not producing enough progesterone to sustain the pregnancy. I am TTC again and have been proscribed progesterone tablets to take in the second half of my menstral cycle, to regulate my periods, and have been told that as soon as I get pregnant I will need to take a blood test to measure my progesterone levels and will probably be prescribed progesterone for the first 15 weeks of the pregnancy. Apparently this will reduce my chance of miscarriage again from 50% to 10%.

I have a healthy two year old, conceived with no problems and my endocrinologist said this was probably because I conceived him after being on the pill for a long time, so I still had “residue” hormones helping me out. I have had a scan showing lots of cysts (and year and a half ago) and one showing none (3 months ago)

Basically I think that some symptoms, irregular cycles, cycsts etc, can “disappear” or be treated, but you still need to be monitered for reoccurance, especially if you get pregnant again, so that you dont have a repeat miscarriage.

Best wishes to you and all women going through this!

Hi there,I do believe that pregnancy can reset your body as Ahwahtukee resident said. I was diagnosed with PCOS in October 2009 after an ultrasound showed the little cysts on my ovaries. I’d had irregular periods for years, since I was 18 (I’m 27 now). My partner and I decided to try for a baby as we were told it could take a long time and I might need to take Clomid if I didn’t fall pregnant within 6 months. Well I did fall pregnant in March 2010 but at 9 weeks I had spotting and pain and I had to have a scan which showed the baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks. 2 weeks later I went to hospital for them to make me miscarry. It was awful but on the plus, it does seem that I now have a regular 33 day cycle and I’m now on my fourth cycle and seem to be ovulating at the right time so I do believe that the preganancy has reset my body. All the best xx

PS: When I went for my early pregnancy scan, the scan showed the foetus and my ovaries were said to be clear too. The following scan 2 weeks later also showed my ovaries to be clear of cysts.
