Ovarian Cyst?
I had an ovarian cyst on my left ovarie last summer, but I never checked back up on it because my doctor insisted that "these things go away on their own." I haven’t really had too bad of problems with it except when my period comes each month. I have had increasing pain on my left side that feels like I am being gutted, a burning/cramping sensation down my left leg, and my whole left side is sensitive to touch. This only occurs a few days before my period and during it, then it goes away. Before I marked it off as really bad cramps, but last night I was unable to sleep because of the pain and today I can’t walk because of it. Could that old cyst be causing this?
Is it typical for it to hurt just during your period? No other time?
Definitely get a second opinion, there’s no reason for you to be in pain if you don’t have to be.
YES- I had lots of pain every month and they did an exploratory surgery and found two cysts the size of golf balls. They drained them and did a biopsy to make sure it was not cancer. I know how you feel…It was an outpatient surgery and almost no scarring so I would see if this is a possibility. Also, they can do an ultrasound to get a better look at your ovaries.
I hope you feel better!
Be sure to get it checked up. It can go away, or it can keep growing, so you really need to get it checked. It might have gotten bigger and thats whats causing you pain.
It could be a new cyst. If you’re having that much pain, go back, and don’t leave till the doctor treats you as he would treat his own wife or daughter who was in this much pain. Don’t let them just send you off with no solution – they’re not the ones in pain.
Are you on birth control pills? They are often recommended for women prone to cysts.
Sounds like your doctor is incredibly irresponsible and you should go to see a different doctor as soon as possible. An ovarian cyst should be easily treatable if caught early enough, but may require surgery to remove it if left for too long.
I had an ovarian cyst once and the pain was the worst pain i ever felt. If it hurts REALLY bad everytime you get your period and it hurts only on one side, there is a very good possibility you have another one. They are VERY common and other than the extreme discomfort, fairly harmless. But you should still talk to your doctor about it. An easy way to check is an ultra sound. That’s what I got when I had one and it went away on it’s own and I didn’t have any problems until a couple weeks ago. And it is typical for it to hurt around your period considering it is on your ovaries. And all the hormones going crazy around that time of the month. So talk to your doctor. Good luck.
