Ovarian cyst? Is it necessary to go to the hospital?

I started my period on friday and my right ovary has been aching since then. Right now the pain is bearable, but if I walk too fast or twist the wrong way I can definitely feel it. I want to know if I should go to the hospital, or schedule an appointment for the obgyn? I don’t see the point in wasting the night in the ER so they can tell me what I already know. How long does cyst pain usually last? The only reason i’m concerned is because it’s almost been 7 days.

It is not necessary to go to the ER, howeber you should call your MD and have an ultrasound done. There are different kinds of ovarian cysts some are normal and others are not. Most cysts go away on there own usually within a month or two, others like endometrioma’s do not go away on their own and need to be surgically removed. A cyst is not a medical emergency unless the cyst is large and torsion’s which means the cyst twists and cuts off the blood supply to the ovary this needs emergency surgery to save the ovary. Some hemmorhagic cysts rupture and can cause severe pain and internal bleeding.

As for going to the hospital, yes, it is necessary to go to the ER because of how unbearable the pain is.

However, I would also recommend calling the OB/GYN’s after hours line to see if your doctor is on call to let them know what’s going on.

IF the OB-GYNE says it is time to removed the cyst then be it , because the cyst is already over the size that it is must to be removed.

If the pain is bearable, I wouldn’t go to the ER, but I would explain the situation to your Ob/Gyn to schedule an appointment, to make sure it isn’t something serious.

The vast majority of ovarian cysts go away themselves, but there are cases where medical intervention is necessary. Some cysts can burst or rupture. If this happens, how you feel depends on what the cyst contained, whether it is infected and whether there is any bleeding. There will usually be some pain when a cyst ruptures, but it should only be severe pain if there is bleeding or infection. But you really need to get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

In the long term, conventional medical approaches to ovarian cysts are very limited, and treat the symptoms rather than the underlying root cause. You are much more likely to get rid of your cyst once and for all if you take a holistic approach to treatment.

There’s a good info site below about natural treatment.

Hope you’re feeling better soon, and good luck.
