How long did it take you to get diagnosed with PCOS?
I’ve always suffered with excessive weight gain from childhood and even more so through my teenage years. I am now 14 stone at the age of 23. I have hair growth on my face and tmi but really long pubic hair. I have irregular periods and irregular ovulation. My periods are painful and heavy. But when i started my periods I was at a young age and started having them once a year or every six months untill i became sexually active. I have irregular twinges and dull aches throughout my entire cycle which can be painfull and hard to live everyday life. Ive tried losing weight but it just wont shift. I eat healthy, take vitamins i don’t drink or smoke either.
My family history is my mother couldn’t concieve for 10 years. My father has Type 2 Diabeties, High blood pressure & high cholestrol.
It took around 4 years to get pregnant and we have been TTC #2 now for 2.5 years almost. Ive had ultrasounds (Ovarian Cysts on both ovaries 5cm each), swab tests and blood tests (which apparently came back normal) but I am totally convinced I have PCOS. But the GP won’t do anything says we are young and already have a child. But tomorrow we are going for a second opinion with charts and research of PCOS.
I’d like to know how long it took for you to be diagnosed with PCOS and how long before they gave meds such as metformin & clomid to treat the irregular periods?
I really apprechiate your help and advice on this matter. I just want to be a mummy again and give our daughter a little brother or sister.
Thank you for your reply
I am already taking vitex started it this cycle. I take my pre-natal and an extra Vitamin B6. I am also taking baby asprin. I just don’t understand how the GP hasn’t been able to diagnose me just cus we are a yound cople. I dont want to be in my 30′s to do something about it .
You are the perfect candidate to take Vitex. It is a natural herbal drug found online and at some health food and vitamin stores. This is going the natural way. Instead of using harsh drugs prescribed by your doctor. You will see a difference after being on them for 3 months. Your periods will be lighter and only last for 4 days. Your cycles will stabilize and your luteal phase will be where it is suppost to be. I have been on this for 3 months and my cycles are now 29 days with only 4 days of bleeding each month. I do still get cramps around ov, but not all month long. It is an awesome thing. I am overweight now after having my first 2 kids. Which I use to be called fertile mertil. After 6 years going by, being overweight and being on birth control my body got out of wack and this drug helped me to get back where I am suppost to. Did you know that the depo provera shot (birth control) eliminates cysts and reduces the risk of breast cancer. I do not advice woman who don’t have irregular cycles, PCOS or LPD to take this. But I believe you have PCOS. You have like – 99% of the signs that you do have it. Try this for 3 to 6 months first. I promise it will be worth it. I also take a pre-natal vitamin, an extra B6 vitamin and evening primose oil each day.
Good call on finding a new doctor… some just can’t get over the age thing. Tell your doctor that you want the cycle day 3 test done, which tests different levels to detect things such as PCOS and Thyroid disorders. I have had problems with my periods/cycles since they started, which was at 13. I am now nearly 23, and was finally diagnosed with PCOS in April, 2010 after TTC for 2 years. My doctor has had me on Metformin for 3 cycles, and Clomid for 2 cycles now, after 4 previous cycles of Clomid with another doctor who refused to do any testing because I am young. Maybe talk to your doctor about trying Metformin and Clomid. Since starting this combo, I have had 28-30 day cycles. Hope this helps!
