Has anyone else had a large baby?
I am 33 weeks pregnant and my daughter is weighing 5 pounds 7 oz. Shes in the 70th percentile of weight. My question is, Since shes " over normal weight" Will they take her early if she gets too big? Also, i dont have gestational diabetes, and i’ve gained exactly 30 pounds ( since ive checked this morning)
Another question. They’ve also found that she has an ovarian cyst.. that got larger since the last ultrasound 2 weeks ago. My doctor doesnt seem to be too worried about it, but it worries me that its gotten larger. Has anyone else had this with their child?
The cyst isnt on MY ovary. Its on HERS. I have to go for a more extensive ultrasound because of the fact, that its on her ovary.
They thought my son was going to be nearly 10 pounds, he was 8 lb 11 oz when I was induced 10 days past my due date. My daughter was estimated to be over 9 pounds the day before I was induced with her at 39 weeks (due to medical issues of my own) and was only 7 lb 13 oz. The ultrasounds are off by +/- 1 pound, which is a HUGE margin of error! They should not induce labor early just because of an ultrasound estimated weight, just because a baby is "big’ doesn’t mean he/she is fully developed. ( My son is nearly as tall as his four year old cousin, but that doesn’t mean he’s four, he is still just two.)
The average weight of newborns is 6 1/2 to 9 pounds, so I wouldn’t be too concerned. My friend just had a "little" boy in February, he was 11 lbs 4 ounces, born vaginally. I know it sounds scary, though! I have been there! Unless medical issues pop up, I would turn down offers to induce prior to your due date.
I have no experience with the cyst on the baby’s ovary. I, too, would be concerned, that’s what moms do. But, if your doctor is alright with it, then that should be at least a little relief. There isn’t much you can do for cysts aside from draining them if they get close to bursting, and using hormones to control them, which you don’t want to use on a newborn. (I have cysts on both ovaries).
you really have to ask your dr. some drs believe in inducing labor a week early for a big baby, others will want to plan a c-sect, and still others (like my dr) will do nothing and wait for you to go into labor naturally, and then if problems develop, do a c-sect. it’s their individual preference. of course, you can always throw a big fit if your dr chooses a method you dont agree with and try to get them to change their mind. that usually doesnt work. the cyst will just be monitored, if your dr is not worried then its ok. and by the way, the cyst is yours on your ovary not the baby’s.
My mother’s friend’s baby, Ayla, weighed 8 lbs 9 oz. when she was born. That is a big baby! Snce your baby is the 70th percentile of weight they may enduce you a few weeks before your due date.
Also, the woman who delivered this big baby was born with a cyst on her ovary (not her mom’s) and what they did was they just took her entire ovary out. She has 1 instead of 2 now but is still able to have children.
When I was 33 weeks they told me that my daughter was 5lbs 1oz. She was born at 39 weeks and 6 lbs 15oz. As your baby becomes bigger the ultrasound is further and further off from accurately estimating the size.
