Might this be Premature Ovarian Failure?

Okay, I’m 19 so this sounds ridiculous. I had my first period at 12, pretty heavy for a first period too, soaked through everything my first day and had bad cramps from the start. I never really charted everything until late 2007. Since then I noticed a pattern. My periods were getting farther and farther apart. I thought this was a little weird. Then I was hospitalized with an ovarian cyst and infection over there. My doctor was concerned about my lengthening cycles and wanted me to come see him two weeks after I was discharged (lots of antibiotics later…) Well, the day I was supposed to see him I had my last period so I cancelled the appointment. I tried to make another but I was spotting, and again, and again. Finally I got my appointment. I got another ultrasound on the ovaries and was given the all clear. He told me I had PCOS and took some blood to test my hormones. A week and a half later he called with the results and told me I had low progesterone, common in PCOS. He started me on metformin since I’d like to TTC in the next year and wanted to make sure I was ovulating. At this point my cycles were 48 days long, up from around 32 the year before. I started taking Metformin and I don’t like it. It makes me dizzy and gassy. Also I am currently in the range of cycle day 81.
I’ve been looking up stuff recently and have found I have symptoms of both PCOS and premature ovarian failure. Irregular (or no) periods, hot flashes/night sweats, cysts, insomnia (when not on metformin, metformin makes me incredibly tired all the time), occasionally sore breasts, moodiness, irritability, ect.
I DON’T have some of the big trademarks of facial hair, weight gain (or trouble losing weight, actually it falls off like nothing when I skip meals), and hair loss that are part of PCOS.

The thing I don’t really get is the hot flashes. I don’t see that listed anywhere in PCOS, only in POF. Someone help me…

Hi ladies :) I’m wondering if I possibly have ovarian cysts/PCOS. My periods are typically pretty regular, they just vary by a couple days each month. Normally it’s either every 24, 26, or 28 days. I would say every now and then I have an off cycle, maybe 3-4 times a year, where I have a longer cycle. My periods are typically extremely heavy with terrible cramping, lasting 5-7 days.

I use a fertility monitor that is always 100% accurate as far as detecting ovulation. Last month it detected my O day, and then I didn’t start my period when I should have. It was 2 wks late, and I have a 12 day luteal phase. I was having horrible throbbing pain in my left ovary, and now I am still having the pains on CD 12. It’s not ovulation pain, it’s much more severe. I’m starting to think I have a cyst or PCOS. I’m not overweight, but if I let myself I can gain weight pretty quickly. I’m possibly 5 pounds heavier than what I should be. I’m not noticing any extra facial hair, and I know not everyone has that symptom. I know everyone’s symptoms are different, but the thing making me wonder is the TERRIBLE pain.

Does it sound like a cyst, or PCOS to you ladies? I have an appointment with my OBGYN on Thursday, and I am just petrified to go. I’m eager to get to the bottom of it, and know it’s in my best interest to go, but I’m just so worried and terrified. Any advice or personal experience? I’d love for you all to share :) Thanks ladies, and all the baby dust in the world for all of us TTC!
I’m not pregnant. I finally got my period after being 2 wks late, and currently in a new cycle.
Oh I’m keeping the appointment for sure! I’m just petrified that it’s going to be someting that affects my fertility. We been TTC for 9 months, and I’ve had 1 miscarriage. I know we gets cysts each cycle, I’m all too familiar with the way our reproductive system works, lol. I probably know too much for my own good!
Thanks Dr. Phil :) You always give the best encouragement!

Has anyone had Ovarian Cysts or PCOS?

I have been nauseas/vomiting daily for four months. Over the past year I have gained 50 pounds, when I eat healthy and exercise almost daily. I was never thin, but was in shape and now I can’t lose or even maintain my weight, as well as I get lil’ bumps on my arms and feet, sometimes neck (almost like a hive), facial hair, and pelvic pain. Originally I thought it was stress, but after a whiel I felt I needed to go to the dr. I went to my regular Dr. he did a blood test where it came back that i had a 120 testosterone level. My dr. told me I may have PCOS or possibly ovarian cancer. I then went to the gyno and he did an exam and said that he doens’t think it is PCOS because my menstral cycle is ok. He did say he thinks he feels cyst/s. I am going in a few days for a ultra soudn and vaginal probe, but I was wondering in the meantime if anyone has had any similar symptoms, my biggest concern is the excessive weight gain and vomiting.
