Could it be polycystic ovarian syndrome?

I was reading a little about PCOS today and it kind of worried me, since I had some of the symptoms. I also had a sharp pain in my right arm and when I googled it a link about PCOS came up.

My symptom:

-Increased body hair.. I have dark hair so I’ve always had some, but lately it’s been a LOT.

-Ovarian cysts

-Lately my skin has been breaking out like crazy when normally my skin is pretty clear

-Weight gain

-I don’t use birth control and I’ve never been pregnant.. I know it’s silly to think I’m infertile without a proper test but it strikes me as quite odd that I’ve NEVER become pregnant while having unprotected sex

-My body has always been very hourglass. I always had a tiny waist. But the past 2 years I’ve developed more of a belly.

Should I consider seeing a doctor or gyno and discussing it with them?
Thanks in advanced

about 3 months ago my mother started having abdominal pains, she had gastric bypass surgery last year so we immediatly brought her to the hospitol so she could get checked out. turns out that she had a stomach ultcer and an ovarian cyst. the cyst is 1 centimeter. the doctor, who is not a gyno says that it was non cacerous and to just let it run its course and it should dissaper on its own. he sent her home with a prescription to hydrocodone 5 mgs, which really helped her get through the day alot. while they were doing a more extensive search of her insides, the doctor said that her cyst was bleeding, so he took out the blood that had built up in the are. ive done alot of reading up on the internet and have yet to find someonme with a similar case. she is in alot of pain and the medical bills are racking up very quickly, if there is anyone else out there who has experienced this or similar or knows someone who has please help! she is in alot of pain, it hurts her to stand or do things, but sometimes she has no pain, any suggestions on how i can help alleviate her pain beside appling heat, taking a warm bath laying down or prescription pain killers, keeping in mind that she also has a stomach ulzer so there are certain things that should help but she cannot take. i dont know what to do and we dont have all this money for pointless doctor visits. thank you for your time and patients, and hopefully answers too

I started my period young and had one ever so often thru 6th grade thru highschool. WHen I was a freshman in HS I was put on BC pills because of the horrible heavy periods and ahwful cramping and ovarian cysts. The BC pills heled with the periods but made me ahwfuly moody they tried the patch and a few pills to try and fix the issue, my mom hated it and i hated being so moody so when I was a senior in HS I decided to see what would come of not being on the pill anymore. I felt better not so moody but my periods were whacky again and just wouldnt come…. SO…i went back on BC pills orthro tri cyc lo and was on it for a few years…and my 1rst year in college i had to have a leap of my cervix because of abrnormal cells, and was very upsetting. I met my long time b.f that year and a year later I became pregnant some how while i was still on BC pills. I had a very hard pregnancy with blood pressure and border line diabetic with severe weight gain. Didnt really know my due date one was 11/17 and the second was 12/22..because we never saw the same doctor when we went in. But on 12/6 i went in for my appt and the doctors informed me that my placenta stoped nurturing the baby so i needed to go in and have my son right now. THey sent me to the hospital and started me on the meds for contractions and eventually aften many hours i was dialated and ready to push…pushed for a very long time. And didnt get very far after so much time. The doc came in and was like did anyone see this blood? I was bleeding down the side of the bed from some where and then they decided i needed a csection asap and they rolled me in to have it done. (ahwful exp. but everyone was ok but my son when he was 15mo. old was diagnoed with mild CerebralPalsy not beinable walk &swallowing problems) But now my son is 3 year old &i have had on going spikes of fever/ches and pains and horrible skin. I recently went to see my gyno doc and was put on BC pills due to not having a period in a year? HELP any ideas?

I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts a few years ago and since then, my gyno has been attempting to treat them with birth control pills. However, I have a bad reaction to each pill.

The first (I can’t remember the name of that one) caused me to gain tons of weight and I was nauseous the entire time.

Next, she tried me on ortho, and I was having severe "pregnancy" symptoms without being pregnant. Everything from morning sickness to heightened sensitivity to smells and weight gain, yet again.

Finally, I just recently tried yaz. Again, with the weight gain AND I bled for 17 days out of the first month. I felt lethargic the entire time.

Has anyone else had such trouble with birth control pills?

I’ve had my periods for about 7 years… They’re still not regular.

3 weeks ago I went for a ultrasound that found a 4cm cyst on my right ovary. At the time I wasnt in much pain at all.. but for the past week I have been in excruciating pain in my lower back and pelvic area. It felt like back cramps that I usually get the day I start my period but way worse and for 10 days instead of one! Today I got my period and it is VERY heavy with a lot of blood clots. This is very unusual for me I never have clotting or a heavy flow. Also, the crazy thing is that this morning I was still in horrible pain but when my period came this afternoon, all of my pain pretty much subsided besides for some slight pain where my ovary is with the cyst. Is this normal with a cyst to have horrible pain before your period starts and then it subsides? Should I expect this pain to return when my period ends?
Now that the pain has subsided quite a lot does that mean my cyst is dissolving?
We think I have had the cyst for a few months now and it is a complicated cyst but I have never had this horrible pain that I had for the past two weeks and now its subsiding so that is why I am wondering if it is dissolving or not..
The pain I have been having was worse in my lower back than my pelvic area if that makes any difference..?
Is it safe for me to wait until next wednesday to see my gyno ?

Can ovarian cyst cause this much pain?

It all started about 3 months ago, my left side really really hurt. If felt as if something was pulling at my side, I charlked it up to my IBS and moved on. I started noticing that every month since then, about a week before my peiod that my left side would hurt. I finally went to my Gyno and was told that I had a small cyst. I am curious if that is what could have been causing my side pain, it is also in the bend of my back as well. I went to a doctor this week and they said they thought I had pulled something, but they can’t find what. This is after x-rays and blood tests. Has anyone had these symptoms with an ovarian cyst or should I insist on more tests. I don’t know what to do, can someone please help!!!!

Ovarian Cysts or more?

To make a long story short I was experiencing extreme stomache problems recently and my docotr refered me to a Gastronologist. In turn he sent me to have a CT done on top of blood work and fecal x3. They were looking for parrasites or colitus. I got a call about my CT and they informed me that I have ovarian cysts. Which may have actually explained a lot of prior ailments I have experienced over the past couple of years ( I’m 21 now ) They at one point thought I had appendicitis and could not turn up anything when they sent me to the hospital so they sent me home. I have the same pain on the same side STILL I have my period ( or just bleeding ) 75-80 % of the month and pain in the back of my legs and stomache area. ( this has been going on for about 3 years now )I haven’t really gained much weight nor can I eat much, but my stomache is still growing larger and I constanly feel nauseas and tired. I’m worried about the "c" word a little bit even though it is a bit more rare. On both side of my family both sides have had a very bad track record for the "c" word. My dads mom had polups, my dad’s sister has uterine cancer AND ovarian cancer. My mom has polycystic ovaries and her sister had ovarian cancer and had to remove everythng giving her a severe hormonal imbalance ( which eventually led to her suicide ). My mom’s brother was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer as well. I am of Irish and Armenian Decent if that helps. My question is what do you think the gyno will do or suggest when I go to see them? I’ve been on birth control to no avail. And I am currently not sexually active because of the pain I have from intercourse. Please help me answer this to the best of your ability. Thanks.
I am not worrying myself to death over it being the "c" word. like I said in the text I know it is rare for someone my age to suffer from ovarian cancer . I simply stated that many of my family members 1st and secondly have had cancer in such regions which would make me more subseptible to it. And I know that genetics plays a big role in such matters. Would you have prefered if I spared that information? Which wold lead to a less valid set of info to base your response off of. I already know that I have multiple cysts. The CT scan showed that. I just wonder how long I have had them if I have felt like this for 3 years now and why they didn’t find it sooner considering that they check for my appendix with a scan and was having the same pain at the time in the same spot. If I’m worried about anything it would be them cutting me open to take it out, the risk of not being able to bear children later on, or the cysts rupturing. Thats all.

My period is almost a week late?

No, I am not pregnant.

Usually I get my period around the 20th of every month. I have had my period since I was 11, six years now, and it has always been regular and consistent (give or take a couple of days).

For the past few months, I have been having really bad cramps and sharp pains on my side (ovaries) while on my period or ovulating, so my mom thinks I have ovarian cysts and scheduled an appointment with the gyno, which is in February. I haven’t had any cramping or anything yet this month, no spotting, but some light brown gooey discharge (looks like what I have for a couple days after my period finishes up) today. Its just that my period is almost a week later than it normally is.

For the past week, I have been exercising regularly and I changed my diet, but it was nothing too dramatic, so I don’t think that’s the problem.

What could be wrong?

Has anyone had Ovarian Cysts or PCOS?

I have been nauseas/vomiting daily for four months. Over the past year I have gained 50 pounds, when I eat healthy and exercise almost daily. I was never thin, but was in shape and now I can’t lose or even maintain my weight, as well as I get lil’ bumps on my arms and feet, sometimes neck (almost like a hive), facial hair, and pelvic pain. Originally I thought it was stress, but after a whiel I felt I needed to go to the dr. I went to my regular Dr. he did a blood test where it came back that i had a 120 testosterone level. My dr. told me I may have PCOS or possibly ovarian cancer. I then went to the gyno and he did an exam and said that he doens’t think it is PCOS because my menstral cycle is ok. He did say he thinks he feels cyst/s. I am going in a few days for a ultra soudn and vaginal probe, but I was wondering in the meantime if anyone has had any similar symptoms, my biggest concern is the excessive weight gain and vomiting.

This might be a little long to explain it all, sorry ahead of time.

Recently I decided to go to a Doctor’s Weight Loss Clinic. I had gained over 60 pounds in one year for no reason, and it was impossible to lose the weight and keep it off despite healthy diet and daily exercise routine. The weight doctor seemed to think I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and said I needed to be tested by a gyno. Thankfully the diet is working. I lost 15 pounds in one month. Unfortunately these results have come with odd problems that can’t seem to be explained.

Not even a week after starting the diet I began a very painful and random period even though I’m on the pill. A few days later after I started my period, I ended up having a cyst that ruptured. Finally I healed and my period ended from that, but exactly a week later I started another period. That period has ended, but seems to have caused more issues. I don’t know if I have another cyst or not, but I’m back to having constant abdominal pain. All through this my hormones have gone nuts. It has caused me to get severe acne, and making things things extremely sensitive to say the least.

I went to the gyno and she basically blew me off. She said it had nothing to do with the diet, the cyst came from me skipping a pill or taking it at the wrong time (I’ve been on birth control for 12 years now, I don’t ever forget to take the pill, and I take it at the same time every night), and that things will just be odd for a month. She also refused to test me for PCOS stating that if I had it, she would just put me on birth control and since I’m already on it, it doesn’t matter. Despite me being in pain, and having some of the same symptoms all over again, she didn’t check to see if I even had another cyst. Furthermore she prescribed another birth control pill similar to what I was on that has low estrogen and progestin, which means it won’t be effective in shrinking or preventing more cysts.

I then talked to the weight doctor, and he had never heard of such problems. I am currently on a low glycemic index impact diet, which is suppose to help PCOS if I have it. Earlier this year I had started a similar diet and started a random period then too, but didn’t stay on the diet. This leads me to believe it’s the diet, and not any of the medications he has put me on. Also, none of the meds have been known to cause these side effects. I have never had a cyst before that I knew about, and certainly didn’t cause these kind of problems. He seemed to be clueless about if PCOS could have caused this. I have another gyno appointment Monday, but I’m looking to see if anyone has experienced similar problems. Has anyone heard of a diet low in sugar throwing off hormones that bad and that fast? I’m desperate, and am in so much pain all the time.

Here is what the weight doctor prescribed:
-low impact glycemic index diet.
-Phentermine 37.5mg
-Once a week fat burning shots that include B 12, B complex, and Lipovite

Cysts on OVARIES?

I was trying to find out what caused ovarian cysts and I found my answer. When I was in the middle of 10th grade I was diagnosed with 2 small ones. Well, 9th grade into 9th grade summer I started bulimia. But, I never did get below 200 pounds. I continued with that on and off to my junior year. I still have pains from my cysts, usually at night. Nothing uncontrollable though. However, during orgasms I get sharp pains. I figured I have the PSOC ovary, which is usually suppose to be removed. No one knows about my bulimia, but everyone knows about my cysts and even my gyno. this year never really worried about that. I also never get my period, which she knows about. However, All this year I have been on a healthy diet and exercising to lose weight and have had my period 4 times, which is great for me! I was put on hormone pills a while back for 5 days. So, if I do have them, can I get rid of the PCOS cysts and the PCOS disease and my heartburn soon or will I have to suffer forever?
Also, is it possible that I’ve had the same cysts for over 2 years? Or are they just new ones? I want to have children! I don’t want sugery..painful. I decided to never take pills, let my boyd do its own thing.
