Could it be polycystic ovarian syndrome?

Okay, so, i had gone to me doctor to get on birth control and talked to her about the fact, i haddent had my peirod in over five months, and last time i had it, it lasted two weeks. Ever since i gave birth about 5 years ago, my periods have been very irragular, sometimes i wouldnt have them for a month or three at a time, but this is the longest iv gone with our one. She did a pulvic exaim and told me, i did, in fact have several cyst on my ovarys, but they schedualed an ultrasound and drew blood just to make sure. But iv done alittle research on polycystic ovarian syndrome, and things just dont seem to add up, some of the Symptoms just dont match with out a known cause, such are facial hair, or alot of hair, i dont have any problems with that, never have, i have probably the normal amount of hair that any woman has….well not any, but i know i have normal hair growth, and my acne, i have it, like everyone else, but, its nothing that is OUT there, i have break out periods, but nothing a person my age (20) shouldnt have, its never been a major problem, my weight gain is due to the medications i take, i know that one for a fact :( the only time i ever had a major problem with dandruff was when i went swimming in a lake, and the water dryed my scalp out, after a few weeks, it was better, and iv not had problems since. I have had major infertility problems, iv been married almost two years and have yet to use a condom with him, i always thought it was him, but, im assuming its me now.Skin discolorations, im as pale as they come, i might be a tad pasty with my lack of sunlight, but nothing abnormal. High cholesterol levels, and blood pressure, both are excallent, doctors compliment me all the time on them, NEVER been a problem. And i saw one about depression, which, that cant be judge, i have three types of depression, i really couldnt tell if that was one of my symptoms. None the less, now maybe you can see my concern, can anyone tell me what i should be looking into?!

I’ve always suffered with excessive weight gain from childhood and even more so through my teenage years. I am now 14 stone at the age of 23. I have hair growth on my face and tmi but really long pubic hair. I have irregular periods and irregular ovulation. My periods are painful and heavy. But when i started my periods I was at a young age and started having them once a year or every six months untill i became sexually active. I have irregular twinges and dull aches throughout my entire cycle which can be painfull and hard to live everyday life. Ive tried losing weight but it just wont shift. I eat healthy, take vitamins i don’t drink or smoke either.

My family history is my mother couldn’t concieve for 10 years. My father has Type 2 Diabeties, High blood pressure & high cholestrol.

It took around 4 years to get pregnant and we have been TTC #2 now for 2.5 years almost. Ive had ultrasounds (Ovarian Cysts on both ovaries 5cm each), swab tests and blood tests (which apparently came back normal) but I am totally convinced I have PCOS. But the GP won’t do anything says we are young and already have a child. But tomorrow we are going for a second opinion with charts and research of PCOS.

I’d like to know how long it took for you to be diagnosed with PCOS and how long before they gave meds such as metformin & clomid to treat the irregular periods?

I really apprechiate your help and advice on this matter. I just want to be a mummy again and give our daughter a little brother or sister.
Thank you for your reply :) I am already taking vitex started it this cycle. I take my pre-natal and an extra Vitamin B6. I am also taking baby asprin. I just don’t understand how the GP hasn’t been able to diagnose me just cus we are a yound cople. I dont want to be in my 30’s to do something about it .

that might sound like a dumb question but with my first child i dont remember what it was like when i first got pregnant..mainly because i didnt know untill i was two months..anyway..my mom said with her second she had MAJOR cramping. she said it was hard for her to walk..and i had the same thing happen to me this morning. well i had a rather large ovarian cyst when i was about 13 (now 20) that went away with birth control pills but i decided to look up ruptured ovarian cysts and these are the syptoms the website listed…

do u think i can have it?!

Not all women with PCOS share the same symptoms. These are some of the symptoms of PCOS:
* infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleeding
* infertility (not able to get pregnant) because of not ovulating
* increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes—a condition called hirsutism (HER-suh-tiz-um)
* ovarian cysts
* acne, oily skin, or dandruff
* weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist
* insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes
* high cholesterol
* high blood pressure
* male-pattern baldness or thinning hair
* patches of thickened and dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs
* skin tags, or tiny excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area
* pelvic pain
* anxiety or depression due to appearance and/or infertility
* sleep apnea—excessive snoring and times when breathing stops while asleep
