Your Question
Can someone inform me about ovarian cysts?
Hi, I’m hoping that someone who has had ovarian cysts, PCOS, or something related can provide me with some advice…
I didn’t get my period from June 14 through October 18. I went to my student health center (at my college) and had some tests done, ruled out pregnancy and thyroid abnormalities, but showed that I had low FSH levels. The nurse practitioner suggested I get tested for PCOS but since the most likely reason for my missed periods was my recent weight loss, I figured it would just be better to see if my period becomes regular after I worked to gain some weight and then decided whether to get the test done.
Well, I got my period in October, but then it hasn’t come in November. Instead, I’m getting these random, but very mild throbbing pains in my pelvis and thighs as well as persistent mild aches in my hands. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative so I’m going to get this checked out, but somehow the nurse’s conclusion (that I may have PCOS) doesn’t seem likely to me since I don’t fit any of the symptoms: Not obese (in fact I’m a little underweight), no abnormal hair growth or loss, nothing of that sort.
So I was just wondering if it is normal for women to have these kinds of problems. Are ovarian cysts common? What do they feel like?
I would really appreciate any advice you can give me.

I think I may have insulin resistance or some kind of metabolic problem. Here are my symptoms:
I can gain weight rapidly eating a normal amount of calories (2,000 or lower) even though I exercise EVERYDAY! I can gain 10 pounds in a week if I’m not extremely careful.. Its very hard for me to lose weight, in order to lose I usually have to eat the amount of calories an anorexic would (800 and below) but then I gain it all back when I eat normally. I have an extremely hard time maintaining my weight.
I have a history of ovarian cysts. I was thinking maybe I have Polycystic ovary syndrome. I had my thyroid checked and it was normal. I am not a sedentary person either.
I have been this way since I was 14. I am 18 now.
Purging is usually the only way I can fight immediate weight gain. If I eat even a little more than I should I can gain up to 3 POUNDS overnight. I am not kidding. I cant purge anymore though, I need to stop.
Does anyone else on here have this problem? What do you think is wrong with me and how do you keep the weight off if you do have this problem? Are their treatments/medications for this?

Here’s the rundown to the point. My last period was Mar 10, 09. lasted the norm 4 to 5 days. It was due April 15, 09 and never showed. I took a pregnancy test a week after period was due, it was negative. Ive been having mild to sharp pains in my abdomen since 5 days before my expected period. It has been constant also accomodated with lower back pain, frequent urination, and pains in my breast. Ive been checked for endometriosis and ive had my thyroid checked, both test were fine. I have not gained weight nor been stressed. I usually have my cycle every 36 days. Ok I started bleeding 2 days ago which is 15 days past my expected period and it has stopped today. It was not a normal period. I only used a total of 4 pads within the two days. Im still having the abdominal pain and sharp breast pain. I also went to ER last night because of the bleeding and pain. They did a hpt and it was negative. The also did a pelvic exam which they say is normal for someone who was bleeding. Gave me some naproxin and sent me home and gave me numbers for gyno doctors. Its sat so unfortunatly there all closed. I guess its so frustrating because I have been regular for the past 2 yrs straight. Usually my bf and I use condoms or the pull out method but the one month we decide to use no form of birth control this happens. After my last period 3/10 we started having sex with him ejaculating inside me sometimes more than twice a week. And now this! Whats happening to my body?
