Could it be polycystic ovarian syndrome?

Okay, so, i had gone to me doctor to get on birth control and talked to her about the fact, i haddent had my peirod in over five months, and last time i had it, it lasted two weeks. Ever since i gave birth about 5 years ago, my periods have been very irragular, sometimes i wouldnt have them for a month or three at a time, but this is the longest iv gone with our one. She did a pulvic exaim and told me, i did, in fact have several cyst on my ovarys, but they schedualed an ultrasound and drew blood just to make sure. But iv done alittle research on polycystic ovarian syndrome, and things just dont seem to add up, some of the Symptoms just dont match with out a known cause, such are facial hair, or alot of hair, i dont have any problems with that, never have, i have probably the normal amount of hair that any woman has….well not any, but i know i have normal hair growth, and my acne, i have it, like everyone else, but, its nothing that is OUT there, i have break out periods, but nothing a person my age (20) shouldnt have, its never been a major problem, my weight gain is due to the medications i take, i know that one for a fact :( the only time i ever had a major problem with dandruff was when i went swimming in a lake, and the water dryed my scalp out, after a few weeks, it was better, and iv not had problems since. I have had major infertility problems, iv been married almost two years and have yet to use a condom with him, i always thought it was him, but, im assuming its me now.Skin discolorations, im as pale as they come, i might be a tad pasty with my lack of sunlight, but nothing abnormal. High cholesterol levels, and blood pressure, both are excallent, doctors compliment me all the time on them, NEVER been a problem. And i saw one about depression, which, that cant be judge, i have three types of depression, i really couldnt tell if that was one of my symptoms. None the less, now maybe you can see my concern, can anyone tell me what i should be looking into?!

I experience major PMS, depression, and mood swings. I start cramping sometimes five days before I start my period. Take right now for example. I have been cramping the past four days and still no period. I’m sure it’s going to come tomorrow, but then I’ll have to deal with bleeding so bad I can’t go even an hour without changing my tampon. The bleeding is only bad the first two days usually, and I sometimes get clots.
My periods last seven days with major bloating and a temporary five pound water weight gain. I get very cranky and depressed. The cramps the first day are sometimes so unbearable I can’t lay down, I can’t stand up… whatever position I’m in still hurts. Sometimes the cramps are so bad they even go down into my legs, and I get nauseated and I’ve even thrown up before. When it gets too bad, I have to lay in the bathtub with hot water or use a hot pad. I have to take prescription pain killers for the cramps, but even they don’t work too well.
I also experience pain when I ovulate. I can feel very sharp pains in my side. Sometimes it hurts so bad I can’t stand up. I’ve been hospitalized twice for ovarian cysts.
So basically half the month I’m in pain from either ovulating, having PMS, or cramping. It’s so horrible. It’s like I can’t even live a normal life when I feel like this all the time.
I’m 33 years old, almost 34, and it’s been like this ever since I first started my period when I was around 11 years old. I have never been pregnant… I think it’s very possible I have endometriosis (that’s what doctors suspect) and I probably won’t ever be able to conceive. I’ve had unprotected sex on and off since I was 17 and I have never gotten pregnant.
I tried Depo Provera to help with the cramps and cysts, but I had bad side effects and had to stop because I constantly spotted for 17 months. It didn’t stop the cysts anyway. I’m not able to take the birth control pill either. I took it once and had severe vomiting and numbing in my arms like I was going to have a stroke and had to stop that as well. My body seems extra sensitive to hormones. My mom can’t tolerate them either. So basically I use no birth control, but I don’t get pregnant anyway.
I feel like I’m out of options. I don’t do well on hormones so I don’t think I can go that route.
I have seen a specialist and she suggests I get laproscopy. I’ve never had any sort of surgery besides wisdom teeth so I am absolutely terrified and I keep putting it off. I don’t know if I can go through with it.
I am also getting older now and it makes me sad to think I may never have a family.
Most of all, I just want the pain to stop. Is there anything I can do? Anything natural that could help me? Is laproscopy really necessary? I hear if you have endometriosis, it keeps coming back even if you have surgery, and the only way it temporarily goes away is if you get pregnant. Well I don’t think I can get pregnant since I haven’t all these years. I just feel sad and hopeless right now, so if you have any advice I’d appreciate it. Thanks.
I do exercise six days a week (cardio three days, strength training three days).
I still get cramps though… some months not as bad as others. I think my diet can have an affect on it as well. Any foods I should avoid?

i just found i have PCOS..?

the nurse practitioner put me on metformin 500 because my insulin level was high, not low and I’ve had irregular periods since I was 11. but it didn’t regulate it and my insulin had lowered a great amount. The nurse couldn’t figure out what was wrong. But another nurse had given me some information on PCOS. so I did some research on it. and come to find out, I had every last symptom that was listed. So my mom asked the nurse to get me tested. they did an ultra sound to see if there were cyst or anything, both inside and out. they called a few days later and told me I had polycystic ovarian syndrome. ones busted or something ,I have cyst, and I have fluid on the lining. something like that. my mom was in a hurry and didn’t tell me where I could understand. Anyways, the nurse wants to put me on birth control, but isn’t that used for the same reason metformin is? and is one of the side effects for metformin weight gain? because my weight is always constantly up and down,. out of nowhere I’ll lose 10 pounds and then gain 13 back. But when I went to the doctor about one in a half weeks ago, came back and found out I gained 10 pounds in only a week and a couple of days. I’m pretty sure it was the medicine, I’ve never gained that much weight in a week or so. should I tell the nurse? or should I just start watching what I eat? so after I take the pill, what’s next? is that it? I’ll still be able to have children, right? it’ll just be harder for me to conceive? or is there more to it?
im by the way =P

Ovarian Cyst and weight gain. HELP!!!?

Hi, i am 23, and recently my doctor diagnosed that i have an ovarian cyst, and my hormone levels are abnormal. Apparently, i gained 12 lbs in 2 months, and i have been taking birth control (which is suppose to balance my hormones) for about a month, and during this duration, i have gained 4 lbs. So i have gained total of 16 lbs. i know weight gain is a side effect, but my doctor told me to keep taking the birthcontrol for 2 more months. But, will i keep gaining the weight, or will it go away on its on.Currently, i am 136, with a huge belly. Also my breast is very tender and painful, and they have gotten bigger since i have been taking the birth control. HELP!!!

My mother has been suffering this pain for almost two years, the doctors keep sending her for exams and more exams, but we never get a response, she is tired of all this and really can’t take it anymore. The doctors keep telling her that there’s nothing, but if there was nothing, why is she suffering so much. I would like to gather up some ideas that maybe the doctor could look for, rather than her to go and they figure it out. Anyways, thanks, any ideas is appreciated.

Questions about Mirena?

I just had my second child and been suffering for years now with long heavy periods. My ob/gyn recommend placing me on Mirena. I have read about side affects such as weight gain, acne, ovarian cyst, ifections, abdominal pain. How serious are the side effects from being on Mirena and how common is it that I will have side effects. I have been on the pill in the past but it did not help with the long heavy periods and I did gain a good amount of weight being on the pill. I had a baby 11 weeks ago and it trying to get ride of the extra weight but now that I am about to be put on mirena I am afraid I am going to gain a mess of weight. Another thing is my period are really heavy, i can’t wear tampons and they last about 2 weeks heavy the entire time, will Mirena help with the heaviness?

HYSTERECTOMY AND LOWER RIGHT ABDOMINAL PAIN?

I had a hysterectomy with oophrectomy in 1997 age 26 for endometriosis and it was the worst mistake i ever made. Very few women know a hysterectomy is actually a female castration. I was scared into having the op by my dr. Since then i have had chronic hip and back pain and sciatica, weight gain and premature aging. After the surgery a student nurse ripped the dressing off without soaking it and this pulled my incision open on my right side. For the week i was in hospital the wound was left gaping and bleeding and it was only when i went home i organized a home nurse myself and she was horrified saying it should have been packed and dressed or it would never heal. Now 3 years ago i collapsed with severe lower right sided pain and was rushed to hospital. Weirdly it stopped suddenly when i arrived like flicking a switch, nurse said it was probably wind, lol. 4 months later pain returned dr thought maybe appendicitis was sent to hospital had x-ray and blood test nothing else. Then dr said it was prob adhesion’s and i should get a hobby and learn to live with it. For the past year pain has pretty much gone until last saturday when it returned with a vengeance and now it is there constantly, gnawing away. Went to dr this morning he said prob adhesion’s but finally i am going to be referred for a scan. Pain is where my incision opened and is also where i had the pain from the ovarian cyst before my op. Could it be adhesions or is it something else. I just want to know what is wrong and for the pain to go away. I feel so depressed and unwell i just feel like taking all my painkillers and going to sleep. I feel like i am 80, this operation ruined my health.

PCOS disappeared can this be true?

I’m wondering if your body can be cured of your PCOS… (if you dont know what it is look up Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)

From 11-18yrs old, i had regular cycles every month, then at 18 my period only came every 3-6 months, they would be short, crampy, and then symptoms such as weight gain, unwanted hair, mood swings, cysts on the ovaries started… it was confirmed at the age of 20.. im 23 now

The irregular periods continued until last October, it came for 2 months in a row! and then i fell pregnant in December

So wondering if it can just disappear??, especially getting pregnant so quick after 2 regular cycles! I unfortunately lost my baby, at 20wks, in May, but since then my periods have STAYED regular!!!

Although i am very depressed about losing my baby, i somehow feel like maybe the PCOS disappeared and i am somewhat happy if this is true!

Wondering if anyone might have had this happen, and if they have had regular periods randomly after many years of an irregular one, do you know why??

Why after losing my baby has it gone back to a permenant Regular (3 periods in a row) & EXACTLY on time??!!

This has NOT happened since i was 18! and thats 5 years of irregular periods!! and i have no idea what ive done different…

Thanks to all answers.

Will I ever overcome problems from hysterectomy?

I had a hysterectomy in 97. I had my hysterectomy due to being pre-cancerous and also menustrating for 28 days each month for over a years time. Everything was removed except my right ovary. Since my surgery I have had significant weight gain, constant back and abdominal pain, and 9 yrs. later I still have no feeling where the scar is. Now I go back in for surgery once again in a few days to have my right overy removed and to have exploratory surgery due to all the scar tissue and other damage due to my hysterectomy. In the last 4 weeks I have been in so much pain, that at times it is unbearable. It is mainly in my lower abdomen and on the right side, but also continues to my left side and lower back. Sometimes it feels like labor pains. I was told that I had 6 cysts on my right ovary and that I have an 80% chance that this is ovarian cancer. I have had numerous tests done recently and alot of unexpected weight gain? Will my body?stomache ever get back into shape?

And i have had my period long enough to know what PMS is and when they found my cyst i had no signs or anything indicating a cyst.

how common are the side effects of alesse-28?

okay, recently i wen to the gyno for an ultra sound due to severe pelvic pain. they found that i had a ovarian cyst rupture and perscribed Aless-28 to help reduce my risk of getting another one. I think im getting the generic form, im only 15 and ive read alot of really bad reviews. i heard it causes acne and weight gain. i already have a problem with acne and i really dont want to gain any weight because ive been trying to lose some. im already 141 pounds and 5/7 so i look fine but still. im really worried because of all the bad side effects. just wondering how it could possibly effect a 15 year old girl (who is not active by the way, just need it so my sticking ovary dosent rupture).

I will be having a 7cm cyst removed in a few weeks. I have looked at info online and saw that one of the many symptoms of having cysts is weight gain and having problems losing weight. My question is will I lose weight after the removal or will it be easier to lose? Any help would be great!
